On this day in 1860, the Pony Express made it first run from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California.

On this day in 1865, Union forces captured the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia.

On this day in 1882, outlaw Jesse James was killed by Robert Ford.

On this day in 1974, the notorious Super Outbreak of Tornados hit the US. Tornados killed 315 people and injured another 5,500 people.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1902, Willie Tway returned to Chuckery after spending the winter in the South.
