On this day in 1865, General Robert E. Lee addressed his Confederate troops for the last time.

On this day in 1872, Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska City, Nebraska. By some estimates, over one million trees were planted on that first Arbor Day.

On this day in 1912, the Titanic left Southampton, England on her ill-fated maiden and only journey.

On this day in 1916, the Professional Golfers Association of American was formed in New York City.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1894, it was reported that Lewis Fairbanks moved his blacksmith shop to Resaca.
