Today in History - April 7

On this day in 1788, Marietta, Ohio was founded at the mouth of the Muskingum River at the Ohio River.

On this day in 1862, the Union Army under General Ulysses S. Grant defeated the Confederate Army in the Battle of Shiloh.

On this day in 1906, Mount Vesuvius erupts in Italy.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1891, many residents of Chuckery travelled to Columbus to hear Reverend W. H. Lewis give a lecture. Rev. Lewis was the founding pastor of Lewis Chapel, the Methodist church in Chuckery.
