Today in History - April 6

On this day in 1808, John Jacob Astor incorporated his company, the American Fur Company. This eventually led to Astor becoming the first millionaire in the United States.

On this day in 1866, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was founded. This organization was comprised of Union veterans from the Civil War. This organization remains in active existence until 1956.

On this day in 1973, the American League of the MLB institutes the designated hitter.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1887, the Chuckery Brass Band gave a concert in Rosedale last week.
