On this day in 1733, James Oglethorpe and 130 colonists arrived in Charleston, South Carolina. They then headed south where they founded Georgia. The colony was founded with the idea of accepting all religions except for Catholicism.

On this day in 1830, the Great Fire of New Orleans began.

On this day in 1942, Henry Ford patented a plastic automobile.

On this day in 1968, Johnny Cash performed live at Folsom State Prison.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1887, it was reported that several farmers in the neighborhood were putting up ice.
