On this day in 1789, Georgetown University was founded in Georgetown, Maryland.

On this day in 1849, Elizabeth Blackwell received her M. D. from Geneva Medical College in New York. She was the first female doctor in the United States.

On this day in 1997, Madeleine Albright became the first female secretary of state in the United States.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1902, it was reported that misfortune struck Conrad Nicol last week when he lost a work horse.
