On this day in 1861, Kentucky became the 13th state of the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

On this day in 1906, US President Theodore Roosevelt became the first American to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1903, it was reported that Matthias Loschky was having a telephone put in on the farmers' line.
