Today in History - December 29

On this day in 1851, the first YMCA opened in Boston, Massachusetts.

On this day in 1876, a railroad bridge over the Ashtabula River in northeastern Ohio collapsed as a train from Erie, Pennsylvania passed over. 92 people were killed and 64 injured.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1886, Lewis Chapel held their annual election of officers. The results are as follows: Joel Fairbanks, Superintendent; C. Kent, Asst. Superintendent; William Mitchell, Secretary; George Blue, Asst. Superintendent; Allie Fairbanks, Treasurer; Eva Blue, Asst. Treasurer; Ronda Kent, Organist.
