On this day in 1773, the legendary Boston Tea Party took place. The Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians and dumped crates of tea into Boston Harbor to protest the Tea Act.

On this day in 1811, two earthquakes strike near New Madrid, Missouri. These earthquakes are the strongest to have hit the eastern half of the United States in recorded history. The first earthquake struck at approximately 2:15 AM. The second quake hit at 8:15 AM.

On this day in 1944, the Battle of the Bulge began.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1891, Sylvester Congrove is visiting his parents in southern Ohio.
