On this day in 1780, General George Washington grants the Continental Army a holiday as a token support to the Irish who are helping in the fight for American Independence.

On this day in 1941, the National Gallery of Art opened in Washington, D. C.

On this day in 1969, Golda Meir became the first woman Prime Minister of Israel.

And, on this day in Chuckery in 1886, it was reported that the Mr. E. T. Fairbanks will teach the spring term in the Lombard School.
