On this day in 1825, the Erie Canal was completed. This created a route for boats from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes.

On this day in 1979, the Iran Hostage Crisis began.

On this day in 1995, the Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, was assassinated while at a peace rally.

And, in Chuckery, Ohio in 1885, it was reported that Mr. and Mrs. John Trapp have moved to Westerville.
